MAD RIVER MOUNTAIN WOMEN ARE "PRETTY IN PINK"

This upcoming winter we are going to host our first annual "Pretty In Pink" all-female ski/snowboard competition. The registration fee for each participant, $15, will be donated to a breast cancer charity that has yet to be decided. What we hope to accomplish with this event is two-fold.

First, we want to acknowledge and encourage female participation in the sport of skiing/snowboarding, which has traditionally been a male-dominated activity. By introducing a female-only competition, we hope to begin to include females in the competitive side of the sport while providing a comfortable and non-intimidating platform. Many times women are discouraged from competing in events because of the "male factor," or the dominant presence of males also competing. I would also like to add that all of our competitions, including "Pretty In Pink," are solely for fun and on an amateur level.

Second, we hope to raise breast cancer awareness by tying the theme in to the event's name, prizes, and overall atmosphere. We would like to offer prizes to winners that relate to breast cancer and breast cancer awareness. In addition, we want to promote awareness by giving every contestant and ski area employee a pink ribbon to wear for the day.
